How to Build Your Professional Network in Canada As an Immigrant

No matter if you’re just starting out in Canada or have been here for years, networking is an invaluable professional skill. Fortunately, as an immigrant in Canada, there are multiple ways to build your network.

Joining associations is an excellent way to network with professionals in your field and gain insight into the Canadian job market. By identifying associations that pertain to your career path, you can save time and energy while increasing your chances of meeting like-minded individuals.

1. Reach Out to Your Contacts

One of the first tasks new immigrants must do upon arriving in Canada is reaching out to their contacts back home. Doing this helps you build your professional network and establish connections with people who can assist with job searches.

Though this may take some time, the effort will pay off in the long run as it can be extremely helpful for job searches and building friendships within your community. Furthermore, volunteering can be a great way to socialize and stay connected to those around you.

Networking in Canada is an invaluable asset for discovering new job prospects and advancing your career. It may open doors that are not advertised, thereby increasing your chances of securing employment as an immigrant in Canada.

As an immigrant in Canada, networking is a skill you can hone and develop over time. While it may take some effort to build your professional network, with the right approach it can be an invaluable asset that helps you with job searching and success in Canada.

2. Join Associations

One of the best ways for an immigrant to make a life in Canada is by joining associations. Associations provide an invaluable platform for networking and creating new connections with people who share similar career objectives, interests or work experiences. They’re an invaluable resource.

Associations in regulated professions (like accounting, law and engineering) can be invaluable resources as they allow you to demonstrate your international credentials to Canadian employers. Many of these groups offer certification programs and workshops on how to effectively showcase your abilities.

To maximize your time and efforts, research which associations are most advantageous for your goals and objectives, then select an appropriate membership plan. Once a member, make sure you stay active by attending all networking events they offer. Moreover, take advantage of professional development opportunities by learning new skills or gaining leadership experience – but do so in such a way that makes you feel like you’re making a difference.

3. Network Online

If you are searching for a job in Canada or exploring another professional path, networking can provide the skills and connections necessary to be successful.

Networking in Canada often revolves around attending events where professionals from their sector can connect. While this is an effective way to make new contacts, it’s also essential to be strategic with how you network.

A strategic approach to networking will save time and energy by concentrating on a specific set of connections that are pertinent to your objectives. Furthermore, it allows you to prioritize the quality of insights available from each person or organization within your network.

If you are an internationally trained professional in a highly regulated field (like accounting, law or engineering), it can be challenging to have your work experience and credentials recognized in Canada. Fortunately, there are associations dedicated to aiding skilled immigrants in these industries re-find their career paths.

4. Network Face-to-Face

Face-to-face networking remains one of the most effective methods for immigrants in Canada to build their professional network. Not only does it allow you to form deeper connections with people, but it also prevents miscommunication that often arises when communicating digitally.

For successful face-to-face networking sessions, pay attention and engage in meaningful conversation. Doing this will show that you are attentive and present-minded – an attribute which will be highly valued by potential employers.

In addition to face-to-face meetings, coffee chats with potential employers or job seekers are an excellent way to learn more about their values and culture as well as prepare for interviews. Plus, these chats give you a sense of the type of work environment in which you would feel comfortable working.

No matter your background, building a professional network is an integral part of transitioning to Canada. Not only will it give you access to invaluable resources and opportunities, but also invaluable connections.

The Challenges of Finding a Job in Canada As a Foreigner - How to Overcome Them
Jobs & Career

The Challenges of Finding a Job in Canada As a Foreigner – How to Overcome Them

Finding a job in Canada can be particularly challenging for foreign nationals. This obstacle is especially true of skilled immigrants who often move here with the hope of pursuing a lucrative career.

Employers typically require foreign-educated immigrants to have some Canadian work experience before they can be hired on. This can present a challenge if the immigrant does not speak English fluently.

1. Lack of Canadian Work Experience

Many newcomers to Canada face an obstacle: lack of Canadian work experience. This can prove particularly challenging for international professionals with valuable skills and knowledge to contribute.

One solution to this challenge is joining specialized organizations and networks in your new community that can give you a presence and get noticed by potential employers. You could also take continuing education courses or get involved in volunteer work to spruce up your resume and hone any necessary skills that may be lacking.

Other solutions involve obtaining a post-graduation work permit that will enable you to stay in Canada and find employment. This adds credibility to your credentials, increasing the odds of employment in regulated sectors like teachers, accountants, engineers and social workers.

2. Lack of Language Skills

Immigrants and new Canadians often face difficulty finding employment in Canada due to a lack of language skills.

Even with the necessary qualifications and Canadian work experience, language barriers may make it difficult for you to gain employment.

Fortunately, there are programs that can help you hone your English or French language skills and connect with professionals in your profession. Furthermore, these courses prepare you for the job market and give you all of the tools necessary for success in a new country.

Some respondents recommended improving employer-based practices to guarantee fair treatment of immigrants. These suggestions included fair hiring practices, collaboration with OSNs, streamlining immigration and foreign credential recognition (FCR) procedures, as well as on-the-job training and mentorship opportunities.

3. Lack of Networking

One of the primary obstacles new foreigners encounter when searching for a job in Canada is lack of networking. Studies estimate that more than 90% of jobs never get advertised publicly, making networking essential!

Networking is essential for anyone, but especially so when searching for a job in Canada. It serves as an essential method of finding employment opportunities that match your skillset and experience; potentially leading to employment opportunities you would otherwise never encounter.

Though it’s normal to feel shy as a newcomer in Canada, overcoming this can help you build connections and expand your professional network. Be proactive by volunteering your time with the local community; not only will this teach you the language but give valuable experience of living in Canada; additionally, making more friends will help boost your social life considerably.

4. Lack of Financial Resources

Lack of financial resources can be a barrier for foreigners seeking employment in Canada. Fortunately, there are several government-funded programs that assist newcomers in their job search.

One such program, the Federal Internship for Newcomers (FIN) program, offers eligible newcomers and permanent residents valuable temporary Canadian work experience that can be invaluable when searching for a job.

Another program, the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP), assists skilled foreign workers by connecting them with provincial employers.

To ensure the most successful job search strategy, research the industry you are interested in and see what types of jobs are available. This will enable you to focus on narrowing down your search and boost your chances of finding employment within that field. It is also essential that you remain prepared, maintain a positive attitude, and network with other job hunters.

They install, configure, repair and maintain computers as well as provide assistance to non-IT users who are having difficulty using their systems. Furthermore, IT consultants assist companies in selecting the appropriate software and hardware for use and offer training on these items.

Employers may require a bachelor’s degree or postsecondary computer-related coursework depending on the job. Certain positions, like computer network support specialists, require more technical proficiency and thus require higher educational levels.

Computer support specialists enjoy working with technology and are eager to learn more. The job offers great job satisfaction, upward mobility, and the potential for long-term employment.

Software developers apply their knowledge of programming languages to design and construct computer software. Generally, they collaborate with clients to identify their requirements and guarantee that the finished product meets those expectations.

Software engineers can find employment at companies of all sizes and industries. While large tech giants like Google or Amazon tend to hire the most developers, job opportunities also exist at many other organizations such as community colleges.

Software developers are in high demand and earning above-average salaries, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Furthermore, these professionals enjoy benefits such as 401Ks and rewarding projects.

Entry-level positions typically require at least a bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related discipline; however, some employers will consider candidates with an associate degree or significant relevant work experience.

Network Engineer

One of the most sought-after tech jobs in America is that of a network engineer. This position offers ample growth and advancement potential.

Network engineers are accountable for designing, installing, and maintaining computer networks within an organization. This involves working closely with other employees to guarantee systems remain secure and up-to-date.

Additionally, this profession necessitates the ability to troubleshoot issues and work with various hardware and software configurations. Furthermore, they may need to install security systems in order to guard against cyber attacks or keep confidential information safe.

Challenges Facing Job Seekers in Canada
Jobs & Career

Challenges Facing Job Seekers in Canada

Canadian employers are always on the lookout for talent and international experience, yet newcomers often struggle to find jobs that utilize their abilities. This is particularly true of immigrants who are racialized or have limited language proficiency.

Newcomers to the United States often find support through settlement agencies and other resources, but job searching can be challenging. Many end up in overqualified, lower-paying positions that do not utilize their skillset.

Lack of Job Opportunities

Although Canada’s official unemployment rate is at its lowest in decades, real obstacles are keeping Canadians from finding work. These include a lack of Canadian work experience, difficulty getting their foreign education and experience recognized, as well as a perceived employer bias against hiring immigrants.

Furthermore, an analysis of Statistics Canada data revealed that two-thirds of job postings offered wages too low for workers to accept.

Canada’s labour market is facing a critical crisis due to an aging population. Even if immigration levels continue to rise, the supply of workers will likely be in short supply in the coming years.

Workers will have to be more selective about the jobs they apply for, particularly in sectors with lower educational requirements such as customer and food services.

Lack of Language Skills

Many Canadian job seekers experience difficulties with language proficiency, which can have an adverse impact on their economic integration and social integration in Canada. For instance, immigrants with low levels of official-language proficiency levels tend to have more limited employment options (Derwing & Waugh 2012; Blanch 2020).

Foreign-born professionals with specific credentials who are hired by local employers often end up in entry-level jobs.

Years ago, job searches focused on hard skills; today the labour market demands soft ones such as communication, collaboration, creativity and self-reliance. According to a report by the World Economic Forum, these will be the most essential competencies for future employees to possess.

Data about labour-skills shortages is collected from a variety of sources, such as the federal government, universities and the private sector. Unfortunately, this data isn’t specific enough to pinpoint specific skills in demand or supply or where they are most needed.

Lack of Cultural Adaptation

Immigrants bring invaluable knowledge and skills to Canada, yet often struggle to find employment that utilizes their education and work experience. This may be due to a lack of cultural acculturation as well as an unfamiliarity with Canadian workplace culture in regards to communication, responsibility distribution, feedback loops and networking.

Sabina Michael, career coach and education program manager at Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto, notes that workers from cultures which value hierarchy tend to take more decisions, give detailed orders, and guide their employees in daily tasks. In these cultures, managers tend to exert more control over employee decisions and activities.

Government action can play an essential role in helping newcomers gain employment and employers receive the support they need to integrate them successfully into their workplaces. This can be accomplished through licensing and hiring of immigrants as well as employer engagement initiatives that help small and medium-sized enterprises realize the advantages of tapping into an immigrant workforce.

Lack of Education

Unemployment among Canadian job seekers is a significant problem. Nearly half of all unemployed adults seeking work report that their lack of skills or education makes it difficult for them to keep their current positions or secure better ones.

According to a recent poll by Goodwill, people of color were especially at risk. A majority of those surveyed stated they did not apply for jobs because they lacked the necessary skills or training.

Unfortunately, Canada’s educational system fails to provide young Canadians with the practical technical and vocational education they require for success in their careers. Many school leavers enter university without possessing the necessary experience, skills or qualifications required for a career within a particular sector.

Jobs in Alberta – Find Your Next Career Move in Canada’s Energy Capital

Jobs in Alberta: If you’re interested in making a career move to Canada, Alberta is a great choice. It offers high living standards, jaw-dropping landscapes and natural attractions and a stable focus on economic growth.

Whether you are an immigrant or local, you can find jobs in the energy industry that will suit your skills and interests. Read on to learn more about your options.

1. Energy

As the largest oil and natural gas producer in Canada, Alberta is a key part of the global energy transition. It also has abundant wind, solar and bioenergy resources.

With its extensive pipeline network, it is an important hub for the transportation of crude oil, RPPs, and NGLs. The Enbridge Mainline system runs through the province and delivers oil to markets in the Prairies, U.S. Midwest and Ontario.

With a strong cleantech innovation ecosystem, a history of industry collaboration and investment and a pool of specialized talent, Calgary is a leader in the energy transition. Aligning Alberta’s energy pathways with global climate targets could generate almost 170,000 jobs in the cleantech sector and contribute $61 billion to provincial GDP by 2050.

2. Information Technology

In an age of digital transformation, Canada is emerging as a tech hub. As a result, many of the world’s leading tech companies are home-based in Canada.

The country’s top national universities play a key role in attracting and keeping a highly skilled talent pool. In addition, the country’s government is actively fostering innovation in its tech sector.

The ICT industry is a key part of the Canadian economy and is currently experiencing strong growth rates. The industry is also a promising prospect for workers looking to transition into a new career.

3. Finance

The Canadian province of Alberta is home to some of the country’s largest oil and gas operations. It also has some of the best solar, wind and geothermal resources in the country.

It’s no surprise that Calgary, Alberta has become an energy centre of excellence. With a growing population, the city is looking to diversify its base of employment with a variety of industries that can help keep Canada’s most vibrant economy moving forward.

There are many great jobs in Calgary to choose from, so you’re sure to find something that fits your interests and skill set. Whether you’re looking for a new job or to take the next step in your career, we’ve got you covered. Check out our listings below or contact us to learn more.

4. Healthcare

Across the globe, health care is one of the fastest growing industries, with demand increasing as a result of an aging population and rising chronic disease. However, this expansion has been accompanied by a high demand for qualified workers to fill the jobs.

The healthcare sector is often considered a single-payer system, where funding for doctors, drugs and hospital stays is publicly-funded through federal or provincial taxes. Still, a small private sector for medically necessary services manages to thrive.

While discussions about healthcare funding are heated and often focused on operational funding, inadequate or uncertain capital investment threatens the sustainability of Canadian health care infrastructure even more than the questionable disbursement of operations funds. In addition, it exposes the country to the risk of inequity in access to healthcare services.

5. Education

Education is the process of acquiring or developing knowledge and skills, usually through formal learning. The process of educating may also be more informal, such as through a community-based program or vocational training.

A third notion of education focuses on developing reflective thinking and feeling abilities, so that young people can carve out how they wish to exist in the world. This is often referred to as the liberal or person-centered model of education.

Across from the headquarters of Canada’s largest oil and gas companies is an Energy Transition Centre that seeks to ensure Calgary doesn’t get left behind in the global pursuit of a low-carbon economy. It’s meant to bring together academics, start-ups and traditional oil and gas companies to help develop new technologies such as emissions reduction, hydrogen, carbon capture and renewable fuels.

Your Complete Guide to Finding Work in Canada

Your Complete Guide to Finding Work in Canada

Guide to Finding Work in Canada: Canada is a welcoming country that depends on global talent to fuel its economic and social growth. But it can be difficult to find employment in this competitive marketplace.

But with a little preparation and motivation, it is possible to find a job in Canada. Thousands of newcomers have successfully secured work in this beautiful country.

1. Find a Job Match

Whether you are looking for work in Canada for the first time or you have been working for many years and want to try something new, finding a job can be challenging. But if you prepare, persist, and have the right resources at your disposal, you can find meaningful employment in Canada.

Fortunately, the Canadian government has a job matching service operated through the Job Bank that matches job advertisements with job seekers’ profiles. A job match rating of one to five stars is assigned to each match, based on how well the job seeker’s profile meets the criteria for the specific position advertised.

The Job Match service is a key employment resource for candidates in the Express Entry pool who may have difficulties finding jobs in Canada because they don’t speak English or French, or have experience working in a certain industry or discipline. The Job Match service is also a good resource for Canadian employers who are seeking workers with specific skills and credentials.

2. Apply for a Work Permit

Getting a work permit in Canada is a very important step towards finding employment. The first step is to apply for a work permit from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

You can start by answering some simple questions online to find out if you are eligible. This can help you prepare your application and avoid any unexpected problems along the way.

If you are going to be working in Quebec, you must apply for a Certificate d’acceptation du Quebec (CAQ) before applying for your work permit. The CAQ costs 216 CAD and must be obtained before you can begin the process of obtaining your work permit from the Canadian government.

A work permit is a document that allows you to work legally in Canada for a specific period of time. It is issued to people who want to work in Canada, as well as those who have been granted temporary visas to come to Canada for specific purposes.

3. Prepare for an Interview

When you’re preparing for an interview, it is important to think about the questions you may be asked and prepare answers that reflect your training, skills, and experience. This will help you demonstrate that you have what it takes to work in Canada.

A key tip is to remember that interviewers want to hire people who can communicate clearly and effectively. They don’t like to hire people who ramble or talk themselves right out of the job.

Often, they’re looking for someone who can be a great fit for the company and is interested in learning more about their culture. That’s why it’s important to ask questions about the employer and the job during the interview.

It’s also important to arrive on time for your interview. If you’re not, you’ll put the interviewer on edge and make it difficult for him or her to give you a good impression.

4. Get Hired

There are a number of things you can do to boost your chances of finding employment in Canada. These include finding out about the types of industries that need workers, looking for opportunities in smaller cities or towns, and leveraging your skills and experience.

A well-written resume is a key factor in getting hired. It needs to be concise, contain relevant information about your past jobs, and highlight your accomplishments.

It should also be tailored to the Canadian job market and be scannable so that recruiters can easily find it.

Having Canadian experience is a big plus, so try to get some volunteer or internship experience before you move to Canada. This will help you build your network and get more familiar with the Canadian work culture.

Fastest Ways to Migrate to Canada
Immigration

Fastest Ways to Migrate to Canada- You Don’t Wanna Miss These Ways of Migrating to Canada

Fastest Ways to Migrate to Canada

One of the main reasons why people want to move to Canada is the quality of life and the fact that there is so much diversity there. There are several ways in which you can migrate to Canada, including the Quebec Selection Certificate, the Express Entry, the Live-in Caregiver program, and the Humanitarian and Compassionate applications.

Express Entry

Express Entry is the fastest and easiest way to immigrate to Canada. It is a part of Canada’s Immigration Levels Plan, which aims to invite 500,000 new immigrants in 2025.

The Express Entry Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) is a tool used by the Canadian government to assess candidates’ skills, work experience, education, language and human capital factors. Candidates who score well on these factors are considered more likely to find a good job in Canada.

In addition to assessing skills and experience, the CRS also considers human capital factors such as age and career history. Younger candidates with higher education are rewarded with more Comprehensive Ranking System points.

A valid job offer from a Canadian employer is another way to gain Express Entry points. This gives applicants an opportunity to earn up to 200 additional points.

Humanitarian and Compassionate Applications

The Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA) allows foreign nationals to apply for permanent residence in Canada. In some cases, the government will grant an exemption on humanitarian and compassionate grounds. However, before you apply, you should make sure you meet the requirements.

You can apply for H&C relief if you are a foreign national in Canada and you are unable to obtain status in any other country. Applicants must show that they have suffered extreme hardship while in their home country and that this will continue if they are forced to leave.

Applications for H&C can be filed in a number of ways. Applicants can stay in Canada while they are waiting for a decision. If a decision is not made in a timely manner, applicants may be eligible for work rights or housing assistance. Those who are refused refugee status may file for judicial review within 15 days.

Family Sponsorship

One of the fastest ways to migrate to Canada is through family sponsorship. This immigration pathway allows you to move to the country legally without having to work. However, you need to have the appropriate documents to support your claim.

There are two main types of family sponsorship programs. The first involves a spouse, while the second involves parents or other relatives. Each program has its own requirements.

The government of Canada has made a significant effort to increase the number of sponsored immigrant spaces available. In fact, Immigration Canada has plans to invite one million new permanent residents by 2023.

Despite all the changes, family reunification is still the cornerstone of Canadian immigration policy. If you are planning to sponsor your loved ones to immigrate to the country, you should consult an experienced immigration lawyer.

Quebec Selection Certificate

The Quebec Selection Certificate is a document issued by the Government of Quebec, confirming that the applicant is selected to settle in Quebec. It is not a visa, but it is required to apply for a permanent residency in Canada.

The program offers a quick way to move to Quebec. Applicants who are eligible can score points on a variety of criteria, such as work experience, education, language proficiency, and financial status.

The program is designed to help skilled workers move to the Canadian province. The government of Quebec developed it to accommodate those who wish to work in the province.

To obtain a Quebec Selection Certificate, applicants must be 18 years old, a resident of Canada, and have at least four years of relevant work experience. They must also have a valid Canadian job offer.

Live-in caregiver program

The Live-in Caregiver Program of Canada offers pathways for caregivers who are willing to work in Canada. This program allows foreign workers to gain permanent residence status by proving they can successfully integrate into Canadian society.

To be eligible, candidates must meet the standard requirements of economic immigration programs. They must also have at least 12 months of relevant work experience. Candidates must also provide documentation that shows they intend to become self-employed in Canada. In addition, they must meet minimum language requirements.

Caregivers may apply for a work permit if they receive a job offer from an employer in Canada. After living and working in Canada for two years, they can apply for permanent resident status. There are two programs specifically designed for caregivers.

Student Accounts

Student Accounts is an office within the Enrollment Services department that provides customer service and counseling to students and parents with billing, payments, tuition and fees, payment plans, company deferments, online payments, and tax documents for students. They also coordinate payments made to the student account, scholarships from outside sources, and refunds when there is a credit on the student account.

Banks, credit unions, and other financial institutions often offer checking or savings accounts specifically for students that have special features designed to meet their specific financial needs. These accounts may have reduced fees or other benefits, like free ATM withdrawals and budgeting tools.

The best student accounts have a high level of convenience and offer mobile banking, easy transfers, and spending insights. They can also be linked to a savings account, so you can save money and earn interest on it.

However, it’s important to be aware of the fine print of any account. For example, some banks charge maintenance fees or minimum balance fees for savings accounts that have a low balance. So it’s best to shop around for the best rates on student accounts and look for banks that don’t charge any maintenance or minimum balance fees.

Cashiering

A cashier is a retail professional who scans items, ensures prices and quantities are accurate, collects payments, issues receipts, answers inquiries and assists customers. They also process returns and exchanges when necessary.

Cashiers handle large amounts of cash every day, so they need to be honest and reliable employees who are trustworthy with sensitive payment details. They also need to be able to work well with a variety of people and interact with customers in a friendly manner.

A Cashier can work in a wide range of establishments, including grocery stores, banks, casinos, and sports arenas. We also maintain a large variety of electronic documents that serve as reference points for assisting our students, staff, and faculty.

The MU Cashiers Office handles all cash receipts, including coins, currency, checks, money orders, and ACH. Its controls and procedures are designed to maximize the use of cash funds, ensure the physical security of cash and record the receipt of cash to ensure accurate financial data.

Payroll

Payroll is a process that all businesses must run in order to pay their employees. It involves calculating wages, taxes, and deductions; and then disbursing those funds to employees.

Having the right payroll system can save a business money, but it also ensures that employee payments arrive on time. Some systems offer same-day or next-day deposit options, as well as features for managing time and attendance and salary structure.

The most crucial aspect of payroll management is ensuring that the correct amounts are paid to each employee on time, with all necessary tax and deductions taken out. This requires accurate data entry and can be difficult to perform manually.

If you are interested in a career in payroll, consider getting certified to become a practitioner or manager in this field. It will help you develop your skills and hone your problem-solving abilities to keep your employer’s finances running smoothly. Strong math skills are also important in this role.
